Jane Louise Reuning English, a long-time Gettysburg resident, passed away on October 7, 2025, after a long illness. Mrs. English was born in Gettysburg, PA, on August 6, 1938, the daughter of Harold H. Reuning and Ethel I. Weikert Reuning. She graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1956 and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1960 from Bucknell University. Jane was married for nearly 55 years to David Michael English, who died in 2015.
She lived in Gettysburg from 1938 until 1960. After that, she resided in Baltimore, Milwaukee, and Denver through 1964. She returned to Maryland in 1965 and lived there through 1995, when she returned to her hometown, Gettysburg.

Mrs. English was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Her other passions were Christ Lutheran Church, Camp Nawakwa, playing piano, singing in the choir, spending time with her husband David at many car shows over the years, loving and raising her four sons, along with her many cats and dogs. She was an active member of the Harford Choral Society, Christ Lutheran choir, supporter of Music, Gettysburg!, and the Harford County Schools Concerts Committee.
She is survived by her four sons: Scott David English (Debra) of Gettysburg, PA; Peter Ashley English (Cynthia) of Sorrento, FL; Timothy John English (Edith) of Alexandria, VA; and Paul Mansfield English (Renatte) of New Market, MD.
Mrs. English has five grandchildren: Sarah Elizabeth, Matthew Peter, Elizabeth Magdalena, Conrad Timothy, and Cora Alice, along with a newborn great-grandson, James Owen.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, October 13, 2025, at Christ Lutheran Church, 30 Chambersburg St., Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
