While married she lived in York, PA, Leominster, MA and Neenah, WI. Wherever she lived, and whenever she worked, she did so as a legal secretary – except for thirteen years as an Administrative Assistant in the Music Dept. at Gettysburg College. She was devoted to her Lutheran Church and was an active volunteer there, often teaching Sunday School and Bible School classes. While still in Gettysburg as a young woman, she helped collect funds for the start of the Adams County Library at its first location on Carlisle Street. She also belonged to Womenâs Clubs through the years, often serving as their secretary. She served as a treasurer for the League of Women Voters and served on the board of the Gettysburg Chapter of the DAR. While living at Spirit Trust Lutheran Village she served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Auxiliary and assisted in the Auxiliary Anniversary Day. Other organizations that kept her active in retirement included AARP, Senior ACTS and the Gettysburg YWCA Elderhostel program â her favorite volunteer job of all. Janet was an avid reader of mysteries, legal thrillers and historical novels. Her favorite vacations were the many trips she took to Europe and throughout the United States. Janet also enjoyed trips to the Baltimore Opera and especially enjoyed attending plays with friends and her daughters. She played bridge most of her life, enjoying the game and the many friendships she made.
