Obituary: Jean L. Hobbs

Jean Sylvia Landsperger Hobbs, 88, of Gettysburg, beloved wife of Donald E. Hobbs for the last 66 years, passed peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

Jean was born in Linwood, Pa., in 1937 and moved to the Gettysburg area in 1948. She was the firstborn child of the late Fred S. and Margretta T. Landsperger.

In her youth, she helped with her family’s business, the Blue and Gray Cabins. She was a graduate of Gettysburg High School. Following high school, she graduated from Empire Beauty School and became a hairstylist. After graduation, she would own and operate a salon for most of her life.

She was a member of the Gettysburg United Methodist Church and the Gettysburg YWCA. She was very involved with her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She was a yoga enthusiast and actively enjoyed participating in weekly classes into her 80’s.

In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by her four sons, Timothy Hobbs of Gettysburg, Kenneth Hobbs of York Springs, Daniel Hobbs of Lumberville, and Eric Hobbs and his wife Janice of Georgetown, SC. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Devon Foster (Kasey), Sara Jean, and Noah Dean, and her two great-grandchildren, Karlin and Dempsey.

Her sister, Donna Landsperger, and her spouse, Gary Reed, and their daughters, Corey Reed Bowman and Kelly Reed Riley, survive her, as well as sister-in-law Mary Landsperger, nephew Michael Landsperger, and niece Sandra Frieberg (David). She was predeceased by her brother, Frederick E. Landsperger.

A Celebration of Life for Jean will be held at a later date. The Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online tributes and condolences can be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
