Jeffrey Thomas Spangler of Hanover, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, August 31, 2025, after several years battling illness and cancer.
He was 73 years old. Born July 6, 195,2, to Thomas G. and Peggy S. (Artley) Spangler of Hanover, Jeffrey graduated from Hanover High School in 1969. He earned a B.A. Degree in Biology from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and went on to study law at Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. After receiving his Juris Doctor degree and passing the bar exam, he practiced law at several firms in Philadelphia and in York, Pennsylvania, before specializing in patent law.

Jeffrey spent a number of years living in Alexandria, Virginia, while working in Washington, D.C. as a patent attorney. Following the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989, he spent time in Alaska working on litigation related to that incident. In another high-profile case, he litigated claims related to the 2010 British Petroleum (BP) Deepwater Horizon disaster.
Jeffrey was preceded in death by his parents, Peggy Spangler in August 2004 and Thomas Spangler in March 2005. He is survived by his two brothers and their families: Ted W. Spangler (and wife Diana) of Hanover, and Jack D. Spangler (and wife Bonnie) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, as well as four nieces and nephews and their children and eight cousins.
