Joan H. Killen, age 82, of Aspers, was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she cherished with all her heart, on Monday, September 29, 2025. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Joan was born on Thursday, October 29, 1942, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late John and Emma (Schwartz) Donnelly.

Joan will be remembered as a devoted prayer warrior whose unwavering faith and kind heart touched all who knew her. She was a homemaker, raising her children and later lovingly caring for her grandchildren. She also worked at Knouse Foods, where she eventually retired. Joan found great joy in cooking and baking, often sharing her talents as a way to show love and care for others. Her legacy of faith and love will continue to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
She also enjoyed the beach, sitting by her fishpond, antiques, crafting, gardening, reading, and working on word puzzles. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family, and her grandchildren were the light of her life.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerard “Jerry” Killen (d. 2013), and her granddaughter, Meghan McKinney (d. 2015). She is survived by her son, Richard Killen and his wife, Kim, of Aspers; her two daughters, Kimberly Mentzer and her husband, David II, and Linda Shreve and her husband, Joseph Jr., both of Gardners; seven grandchildren— Matthew Killen, Kelsey Alvarez, Colton McKinney, Danielle Mentzer, Zachary Shreve, Elizabeth Shreve, and Emily Hardman; twelve great-grandchildren; and her sister, Linda Price.
Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral & Cremation Ltd., 111 S. Main St., Bendersville, PA 17306. A viewing will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Faith Chapel, 1453 Holly Pike, Carlisle, PA, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Michael Mayer will officiate. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Arendtsville.
