Obituary: JoAnn V. Abraham

JoAnn V. Abraham, 84, of Fairfield, PA, passed away Sunday evening, August 9, 2026, at the York Hospital.

Born March 27, 1942, in Altoona, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Frances (Mazur) Swemba. She was the wife of Capt. Richard “Rich” F. Abraham of Fairfield, PA, to whom she was married for 65 wonderful years.

Mrs. Abraham was a 1960 graduate of Crescent Joint High School. Upon graduation, she worked for the federal government in Washington, DC, taking a leave for a while to raise her family. She later returned to work for the government as a procurement analyst at Letterkenny Army Depot and Ft. Ritchie until her retirement in 1997. After Joanne retired from the federal government, she worked part-time as a flower lady at Boyds Bears.

In addition to her husband, JoAnn is survived by her two children, Leighann Abraham, of Fairfield, PA, Tim Abraham and his wife Peggy, of Orrtann, PA, her six grandchildren, Cary Dillon, Hilary Abraham, Michaela Bollinger, Kyleigh Dillon, Benjamin Abraham, Maxin Abraham, her three great grandchildren, Mattalie Bollinger, Maesyn Bollinger, Michael Abraham, her sister, Patricia Algie, of Fredericksburg, VA, and her brother, Stanley Swemba, of Altoona, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Abraham, who passed in 2010.

A Memorial Service for JoAnn will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Monahan Funeral Home, 27 E. Main St., Fairfield, PA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Saturday morning at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
