Obituary: John ‘Jack’ Straka



John “Jack” Straka, 84, of Gettysburg, died at his home on December 26, 2023. Jack was born on June 17, 1939 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Orach Straka and his father George Straka, Jr.. Jack was married to Linda Kay Straka for 42 years who predeceased him on November 1, 2022. Jack graduated from Hazleton High School in the class of 1957. He entered the Pennsylvania State Police in 1960, serving for 34 years until his retirement in 1994. Jack attained the rank of Sergeant and was serving as the Station Commander of the Pennsylvania State Police, Gettysburg Station upon retirement.

Jack was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Retired Pennsylvania State Police Troopers Association.

Jack and Linda enjoying playing golf and spent many years as members of the Gettysburg Country club and made many lasting friendships as a result. He and his wife were also avid travelers, touring most of the United States, Canada, Europe and China.

All who knew Jack will remember his passion for Frank Sinatra and his music. “The Best is Yet to Come”.

Jack is survived by his son, Brian Sinnett (Rhonda) of Gettysburg. He is also survived by his brothers George Straka (Elain) of Grants Pass, Oregon and Stephen Straka (Kathy) of Port Republic, Maryland and his sister Martha Stark of Drums, Pennsylvania.

The family will receive friends at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on Thursday, January 4, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
