Obituary: John W. Forsythe

John W. Forsythe, 91 of Gettysburg, PA, peacefully passed away at his home on May 19, 2025, with his family by his side. He was born in Gettysburg on September 10, 1933, son of the late Wilford & Alda (Schuyler) Forsythe. John was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Stella I. (Kimmel) Forsythe, who died in 2007. He was a logger with his brother-in-law, Kenny Taylor, and Bob Fair for 20 years in the Upper Adams County area, and later worked for Highland Township for 30 years before his retirement. John worked part-time for the grounds crew at Hunterstown Speedway for many years. He enjoyed watching racing and was an avid Denny Dietrich fan, attending most of his races to help cheer him on. John always looked forward to visiting his good friend, Gary Kauffman, at Sandoe’s Fruit Market in Biglerville. John is survived by six children, Deborah Swackard of Chambersburg, PA, Rick Forsythe (Lisa) of Orrtanna, PA, Kenneth Forsythe (Heather) of Gettysburg, Virginia Allison (Harry) of Gettysburg, William “Bill” Forsythe (Tammy) of Fayetteville, PA and Linda Buckles of Gettysburg, 12 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren, four siblings, Shirley Codori of Gettysburg, Betty Jane Robinson of Gettysburg, Donnie Forsythe of Gettysburg and Nancy Lawrence of Carlisle, PA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clarence and Paul, and three sisters, Florence, Mary, and Ruth. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Thru It All Ministries, 7798 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville, PA, with Pastor Robert Beall officiating. Burial will be private in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg. The family will receive friends at the church on May 31st, 1 hour prior to the service.
