In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering with cars, various kinds of model airplane engines, and anything mechanical with his sons or good friend and neighbor, Roger. He was a perfectionist to the highest degree in everything he did, from washing cars at Boy Scout fundraisers to machining parts for his latest model airplane engine project or painting trim around the house. He dedicated over 15 years of his life to the Boy Scouts of America, helping dozens of young men learn important life skills, from basic cooking to being handy around the house to becoming self-reliant in life. He helped many ultimately work their way to becoming Eagle Scouts, including his two sons. He also loved traveling, kayaking, and antiquing with his wife, Jane.

Joe worked as a mechanical design engineer at McCrometer Corporation, based in California for over 50 years. He traveled extensively for work, having been to 49 states and many different countries around the world. No work trip was complete without a visit or two to his favorite BBQ restaurant, picked from his personal food journal of good restaurants at his usual travel destinations. Many of his coworkers quickly became lifelong friends with whom he stayed in contact until the end.

In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his two sons, Ian Clements and his wife, Ashley, Ross Clements, his honorary daughter, Allison Wagner, his two sisters, Kathleen Shafer and Laura Clements, and his brother, Paul Clements. He was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy.

A Celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Thursday, December 18th, 2025, 1 pm, at Christ Lutheran Church (30 Chambersburg Street, Gettysburg, PA, 17325). The Monahan Funeral Home is assisting the family with celebration of life arrangements and has already completed the cremation. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that you consider performing a random act of kindness in honor of Joe’s memory.

There will be food and refreshments provided afterwards, in the Fellowship Hall at Christ Lutheran.

The family encourages you to share memories, photos, and stories on the website tribute wall.
