Julia Marie Pauley Haines, 99 years young, received her angel wings on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Julia married Francis E. Haines on June 30, 1946, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Harney, MD. They were married for 58 years until his passing in 2004.
She was predeceased by her parents James Stinson Pauley and Ina Virginia Shufflebarger Pauley Duncan, and Mr. Harvey Duncan. She was the last of 9 siblings, Annie Walker, Janie Robinson, Lorraine “Renie” Allen, Hobart Pauley, Allen Duncan, Harvey Duncan, Elmer Pauley, and Loretta “Retz” Beachtel.
Julia is survived by 3 children; B. Dorrene Smith and Janet M. Haines of Gettysburg, and Allen E. Haines of Littlestown; 3 Grandchildren, Timothy E. Smith (Kathleen) of Maryland, Tina M. Williams (Matt) of Orrtanna, and Joshua L. Forsythe (Sarah) of Biglerville; 9 great-grandchildren, Calvin, Cole & Cooper Smith, 2nd Lt. Hunter Williams (Kiersten), Hailey Williams, PFC Raechel Stultz Garcia, Kiaya, Kaylee and Porter Forsythe.
Julia was employed at local shoe & sewing factories and had retired from the Dietary Department of Littlestown School District. She had been Sunday School Secretary for many years at St. Paul’s. Julia was always hardworking woman managing the yard work, planting and harvesting her large garden, and had flowers hanging in baskets all over the yard in the trees and on
trellises Dad had welded together for her. She enjoyed baking cookies, cakes and pies for home and church socials. She especially enjoyed making dad his coconut cake for special occasions. She sewed many of her own clothing and passed down her talents to her daughters. She guided her son on mowing and plowing the garden after dad passed and helping with house repairs.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Visiting Angels, Paramount Senior Living Chambersburg, Heartland Hospice, and Transitions Health Care for the care they provided for our mother.

A Visitation will be Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 10 AM to 11 AM, followed by A Memorial Service at Little’s Funeral Home, 34 Maple Avenue, Littlestown, PA and then a procession to Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1380 Chambersburg Road, Gettysburg, PA.
