
June was a member of the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church for 47 years. During that time she served as a church Elder, Sunday School teacher, youth leader, Circle Leader, Stephen Minister, and member of the Young at Heart group. She was also a volunteer reading teacher for the Adams County Literacy Council, and an on-site coordinator for the Gettysburg Road Scholar Program. In earlier years, while living in Maine, she had been a Sunday School superintendent and a Cub Scout Den Mother. After leaving Gettysburg for Kennett Square in 2013, June was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Chester, attended a womenâs circle group, led a weekly game night at Crosslands, and acted as host/ambassador for incoming residents. June enjoyed bridge, crossword puzzles, traveling, visiting friends and family both near and far, working out at a fitness center, attending her six grandchildrenâs activities and sporting events, and being in her beloved state of Maine.
June was a graduate of Sanford High School, Sanford, Maine and Nasson College, Springvale, Maine. Following graduation, she taught at Spaulding High School in Barre, VT. She worked as a teacherâs aide at Gettysburg Middle School and in 1993 retired after many years from the position of Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools in Gettysburg.
Mrs. Wescott is survived by four children: Robert F. Wescott and his wife Karen of Potomac, MD, William B. Wescott and his wife Phebe of Lynchburg, VA, Susan Wescott Browning and her husband David of Harrisonburg, VA, Ellen Wescott Hineman and her husband Gary of Kennett Square, PA; a sister, Sandra Brook Warner of Saco, ME; six grandchildren, Emily, Ben, David, Ginny, Erika and Kelsey; and seven great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 11 AM at the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church located at 208 Baltimore St in Gettysburg. The family will receive friends before the service from 10 â 11 AM and following the service at a reception in the church social room. Private interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. A memorial service will take place at Crosslands in Kennett Square at a future date.
