Obituary: Oscar Earl Goad

Oscar Earl Goad, 90, of Littlestown, PA, passed away Friday, July 18, 2025, in his home surrounded by family and friends. He was the husband of the late Bernielou M. (Mueller) Goad. “Earl,” as he was known by his family and friends, fell in love with Bernielou in junior high school. They married after high school graduation and shared a loving marriage until the time of her death in 2007.

Born October 21, 1934, in Beltsville, Maryland, he was the son of the late Wyatt Wakeman and Glenna M. (Barnes) Goad. Earl was a family man and worked hard for his wife and three daughters. He was never shy about how proud he was of his family. He never complained of working as he exemplified the self-made man. He started working in his early teens as a plumber’s apprentice, eventually becoming a master plumber tradesman and starting his own plumbing business, Earl’s Plumbing and Heating, servicing the Washington Metropolitan area for 30 years before becoming a plumbing inspector and retiring from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. Oscar was a proud American an,d being the great storyteller that he was, enjoyed sharing stories of his tour in Germany driving tanks in the 1950s. Anything he set his mind to do, he did it and did it well.

He didn’t have many hobbies because work was what he liked to do, so if he was not plumbing, he was working in his yard or working on cars. He was a quiet man with a sharp sense of humor and dry wit. The twinkle in his eyes when he smiled or laughed at a good joke will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his three daughters, Cathy Lynn (Ernest) Scheidegger of Savage, MD, Cynthia Jane (Donald) Welsh of Savage, MD, Celena Marie (Barry) Arter of Littlestown, PA; two granddaughters, Katherine Nicole Scheidegger-Hall of Wellington, NZ, Caitlin M. (Scott) Yokum of Halethorpe, MD and sister Elsie Jean Hardisty of Westminster, MD.

He is preceded in death by his brother James Alvin Goad and two sisters, Annabelle O’Brien and Wilma Dolores Duck.

A viewing for Oscar Earl Goad will be held Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 11 am with a funeral service at 12 noon at Little’s Funeral Home, 34 Maple Avenue, Littlestown, PA 17340, with Pastor Garry Scheaffer officiating. A private burial with family will be held at a later date.
