Obituary: Patrick Paul Balog

Patrick P. Balog, 76, of Cashtown, PA, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Patrick was born July 17, 1949, in Hazelton, PA. He was the son of the late Patrick and Mary M. Balog. His beloved wife of 46 years, Mickey Ann Balog, passed away in 2024.

Following high school, Patrick enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps, where he served 21 years. During those years, he fought for our country in the Vietnam War, retiring as a Master Sergeant in the late 1980s. Following his service, he worked at Knouse Foods for 25 years, retiring in 2015. He was a member of the Fairfield AmVets, Biglerville American Legion, and the Gettysburg Battlefield Detachment Marine Corps League. For a time he and his son Craig were competitive shooters at Fort Indiantown Gap Army Base. He enjoyed the outdoors including fishing and golfing. He was a self-proclaimed chef, whipping up meals for himself and Mickey Ann and side dishes on holidays. Pappy Pats Killer Carrots were always a hit!

Patrick is survived by a daughter, Kymberlee Ketterman of Cashtown, PA, a son, Craig Hartley, and his wife, Susan, of Cashtown, PA, three grandchildren: Lane Allen Hartley of Cashtown, PA, Emily Young and her husband, Garrett, of Fort Leonard Woods, Missouri, and Landis Louise Ketterman of Cashtown, PA.

Graveside services will take place on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA, at 1:00 PM with full military honors. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Online obituary and condolences available at monahanfuneralhome.com.
