aul E. Topper, 83 of Buchanan Valley passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Born February 21, 1940 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Roger & Gertrude (Wivell) Topper. Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn M. (Adelsberger) Topper. He had been employed for 33 years with Schindler Elevator Corp. as a manager. Paul was an active member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Buchanan Valley where he sang in the choir and volunteered at the churchâs annual picnic and a former member of St. Maryâs Catholic Church in Fairfield, PA where he sang in the church choir for many years. Paul was a family man, enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren and the annual family crab feed. He loved working with his John Deere tractors around his property. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by five children, Maria Lynn Becker of Gettysburg, Christina M. Fuqua (Dean) of Athens, GA, Tamara A. Mayers (Bill) of New Oxford, PA, Lisa J. Baker of New Oxford, PA and Dean Scott Gigous (Pam) of Fairfield, PA, a daughter-in-law, Dina Topper of Biglerville, PA, twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two sisters, Delores Martin of Gettysburg and Miriam Barefoot of Fairfield and a number of nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by a son, Daniel E. Topper, a great granddaughter, Evelyn Grace Topper and six siblings, Patricia Hewitt, Regina Layman, Francis Topper, Joseph Topper, Leo Topper and Donald Topper. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 1095 Church Road, Orrtanna, PA with Rev. Dominic M. DiBiccaro, Celebrant. The family will receive friends immediately following the Mass in the churchâs Loyola Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 1095 Church Road, Orrtanna, PA 17353.
