Peter Holzwirth, 86, of Gettysburg, PA died Thursday, morning, May 22, 2025 at his home.
Born November 15, 1938, in Nordhausen, Germany, he was the son of the late Karl Ludwig Willie Holzwirth and Ella Dora Auguste Else (Dippel) Holzwirth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Holzwirth. He is survived by his longtime companion, Judy Tully, of Gettysburg.
Peter was one of ten children, born to his parents in East Germany, he escaped there in 1957 and came to the United States and lived in Long Island, NY before coming to Gettysburg. He worked various jobs including as a farm hand, dishwasher, construction worked, and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Gettysburg Eagles.
In addition to Judy, he is survived by his son, John Holzwirth, of Long Island, NY, three grandchildren, Anthony Pesce, Isabella Pesce, Brian Holzwirth, two great grandchildren, Morgan Pesce, Callie Marie Pesce, and a number of nieces and nephews, here and in Germany. He also has his extended family, Lance and Angie Miller, five additional grandchildren, Justin, Kurtis, Steven, Lindsay, Chase, and four great-grandchildren, Heath, Kenlee, Easton, and Alec. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Pesce.
Funeral services for Peter will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the time of the services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
