Richard Armor Sites, Sr., 99, Gettysburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at his home.
He was born on October 19, 1925, in Bonneauville, PA. He was raised by Lee and Ruth Thomas. Dick’s wife, Verna Redding Sites, died in 2010.

Mr. Sites was a graduate of Gettysburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a tail gunner on B-24s. Following his service, he briefly worked for the National Park Service in Gettysburg, digging graves in the National Cemetery. But for most of his career, he was the office manager for McDermitt Concrete Company on the York Road. Later he and a partner owned and operated the company. Dick enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing cards, and in his younger years, bowling.
Mr. Sites is survived by three children; Susan M. Ziegler of North Wales, PA, Richard A. Sites, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Gettysburg, PA, Barbara J. Duncan and her husband Alan of Chillicothe, MO, a daughter-in-law, Deb Sites of Mechanicsburg, PA, six grandchildren; Brian Duncan, Terry Duncan, Laura Sites, Shane Sites, Christopher Ziegler, Caressa Ziegler, five great grandchildren; Nick Duncan, Hunter Duncan, Marylin Duncan, Georgia Whiting, Elissa Duncan, one great great grandson, Knox Duncan. He was predeceased by a son, Gerard E. Sites.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Gettysburg, PA. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass.
