Richard P. Lightner, 86, Gettysburg, PA, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025, at his home after a lengthy illness. His family and friends were present.
He was born December 18, 1938, at the Annie Warner Hospital in Gettysburg, PA, the son of the late Donald Lightner and Nellie Snyder Lightner of Hanover, PA.

Richard is survived by the love of his life, Janet Stuckey Lightner, with whom he enjoyed forty-eight years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his daughter; Lori A. Sabada and her husband Al of Bedford, TX, his stepdaughter; Courtenay S. Biser-Suárez and her husband José Luis Suárez of Granada, Spain and Fort Collins, CO, grand-daughter; Natalia Suárez, her husband Paolo Bonnet of Milan, Italy, and their daughter; Amelia Bonnet, and grandson; Sebastián Suárez of Fort Collins, CO. He was pre-deceased by his two stepsons; Christopher and Kyle Biser of Gettysburg, PA.
Richard attended Massanutten Military Academy in Massanutten, VA, for high school. He turned down an appointment to West Point to join his mother in the family business, Lincoln Bus Lines of Hanover, PA. He eventually became the owner and CEO before retiring and selling the company in 2013. Richard enjoyed traveling with his wife all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He was a former member of the Hanover American Legion and was a member of the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, where he served on mission trips to South Dakota. He loved time with his family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church with Rev. Caleb McClure officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg, PA. There will be a viewing at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
