Robert “Bob” S. West, age 72, of Hanover, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2026, after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Taneytown, MD, Bob was a proud member of the Francis Scott Key High School Class of 1972. He went on to attend Carroll County Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Business. A dedicated and hardworking man, Bob spent over 37 years with Black & Decker in Hampstead, MD, before retiring in 2010. Never one to stay idle for long, he also worked part-time over the years at Harley-Davidson in York, Camping World in Hanover, and Advance Auto Parts in Hanover.
Bob was a true social butterfly—a natural conversationalist who loved connecting with people and could talk to anyone about any subject. Above all, he cherished time spent with family and friends and living life to the fullest. He had a deep love for traveling, camping, amusement parks, and going on cruises, as well as attending car shows, watching NASCAR races, and riding his motorcycle. A passionate automotive enthusiast, he took great pride in working on his classic 1974 Dodge Charger. Around the house, Bob was a determined amateur handyman and ultimate DIYer who insisted on fixing everything himself. He also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Beau, whom he took great joy in spoiling with cheeky “treats” straight from the dinner table.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marion (Six) and Samuel West.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Carol (Smith); son Jason; daughter Heather; grandson Tayvin; brothers Tom and Jim, and wife Virginia; and nieces and nephews, along with extended family and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 4th at 1:00 PM at the Taneytown Activities Building, located at 49 Memorial Drive, Taneytown, MD 21787.
To honor Bob’s love of cruising, guests are invited to wear a Hawaiian or tropical shirt. If you have photos of Bob you would like to share with the family, please feel free to bring them to the service.
