Robert proudly served 26 years in law enforcement, retiring with the rank of Sergeant from the Littlestown Police Department. Throughout his career, he earned the respect of colleagues and community members alike for his integrity, leadership, and steady presence. In addition to his full-time service, he also worked part-time as an officer for Latimore Township, East Berlin Borough, Biglerville, and Gettysburg, further demonstrating his lifelong commitment to public safety.

Robert’s dedication to service extended beyond law enforcement. He was a life member of the Littlestown Fire Company and the York Springs Fire Company. He served as Past Chief of the Heidelberg Fire Company and as Past President of the York Springs Fire Company. From 1979 until 1992, he also served as a 911 dispatcher, continuing his unwavering dedication to helping others in times of emergency.

While Robert devoted much of his life to serving his community, his greatest joy was his family. He deeply loved his grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. He enjoyed camping, spending time outdoors, and took special pride in mowing his lawn — a simple pleasure that reflected his strong work ethic and attention to detail.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his son, Michael D. Summers (Emalee); grandchildren, Bailey and Brayden Summers; his children, Trent Funt, Robert Funt, and spouse Andrea Helsley; and three additional grandchildren. He is also survived by his half-brothers, Paul Anderson (Cindy) and Frank Anderson (Wanda); his half-sister, Brenda Anderson and her partner Guy; and his mother-in-law, Donna Shadle. He will be deeply missed by extended family, friends, fellow first responders, and all who knew him.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Joel and Colleen Korczynski for their care, compassion, and support.

Robert’s life was one of service, strength, and love. Though he has laid down his badge, his legacy of dedication and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

A visitation will be Friday, February 27, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Christ Church of Littlestown, 131 Christ Church Road, Littlestown, PA 17340, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM.
