Obituary: Robert L. Brewer

Robert L. Brewer passed peacefully at Mercy House, Chambersburg, on Sunday, January 18, 2026. He was born May 25, 1940, in Taneytown, MD, to Samuel Dennis and Vincentia Gertrude (Adams) Brewer. He was the loving husband of Donna (Schriver) Brewer of Gettysburg, who survives him.

Robert was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church since 1958, where he served as an usher for many years, was a past member of the finance committee, and worked at the collection counter. Bob worked at ACNB Bank for 47½ years, retiring in November 2005. His roles at the bank included proof machine operator, teller, general ledger bookkeeper, data processing manager/programmer, office manager at Lincoln Square and North Gettysburg offices, commercial loan officer and vice-president. He was very active in the community, serving on the boards for Easter Seals, the Retail Merchants Association, Main Street Gettysburg, and Habitat for Humanity, where he also served as treasurer. He was a Team Leader for the Major Gifts Division of Adams County Library Capital Campaign, and was Chairman of the Major Gifts Division of the Gettysburg Fire Company Capital Campaign to raise funds for the new firehouse in 1992. He served on the board of directors and as the President at the Gettysburg Country Club. He served on the board of directors and as the President of the Gettysburg Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones award in 1996. He loved sports, especially the New York Yankees. He played in the local baseball, softball, basketball, bowling, and golf leagues. He enjoyed playing pickleball at his Florida home and introduced the sport to the area at the Gettysburg YWCA in 2011.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children, Karen Hess and husband Michael of Gettysburg, Susan Burkholder of Gettysburg and Michael Brewer of Shippensburg, five grandchildren, Addam Brewer, Cassandra Mann, Kirsten Camara, Connor Hess, and Ashlyn Himmelberger; and seven great-grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all.

He was predeceased by his siblings: Vincent “Gene” Brewer, Katherine “Sis” Ambrose, Samuel “Louie” Brewer, Charles Brewer, Darlene McCleaf, and Clyde Brewer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Gettysburg, PA. Interment will be in the church cemetery. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass. What a wonderful citizen Bob was. His civic contributions were many and needed. I have not seen him since Gburg HS, but I remember him as a real.y good guy. I send deepest condolences to his family. Treasure his memories and celebrate his contributions.
