Robert Leroy Gordon (Gordie), 92, of West Chester and formerly of Littlestown and Fairfield, PA, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Chester County Pocopson Home. He was the loving husband of Joyce M. (Clapsaddle) Gordon of West Chester; together they shared 69 years of marriage.
Born March 3, 1933, in Taneytown, MD, he was the son of the late Leroy Barton Gordon and Margaret Viola (Staley) Gordon.

He graduated from Littlestown High School in 1951. Gordie met Joyce Clapsaddle in high school where they dated steadily. Gordie attended Thompson Business College in York in 1952 where he graduated with a major in Accounting. In 1952 he started working as a teller at the York Trust Co. and in February, 1953 he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia where he worked for the Adjunctant General of the Third Army. He was discharged in 1955 at the rank of Sargeant.
Gordie returned to the York Trust Co. in February 1955. He and Joyce were married on November 12, 1955. In 1960, the York Bank and Trust Co. was formed and Bob, as he was now known, worked there until 1969 in the capacity as a teller, general ledger accountant, Asst. Branch Manager and Branch Manager. During that time, Bob attended and graduated from the Pennsylvania School of Banking at Bucknell University.
With a house bulging at its seams, Bob and Joyce moved with their five children to Chester County in 1969. Bob worked for Southeast National Bank as Branch Manager in Downingtown, Exton, Kennett Square, Lansdowne, Media, and West Chester. He also served as area executive for numerous branches in the Avondale and West Chester area. During this time Bob graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in 1983. In 1984 Fidelity Bank merged with Southeast National Bank.
Bob and Joyce moved to Florida in 1985 where Bob was employed with Barnett Bank as a Branch Manager in Coral Springs and Coconut Creek from September 1985 to January 1991.
When they moved back to Pennsylvania in 1991, Bob was branch manager at Carroll County Bank & Trust in Westminster, Maryland until 1997 when he retired.
Bob was very involved in community affairs when they lived in York from 1955 to 1969 and very involved in Jaycees from 1958-1968. Bob was President of York Jaycees, Vice President and Treasurer of Pennsylvania Jaycees and Director of U.S. Jaycees and is a Life Member of Jaycees. He was chosen as Outstanding Young Man of York in 1962. While in York, Bob also served as Judge of Elections in Springettsbury Township and was a member and Chairman of the Township Planning Commission from 1964-1969.
In Chester County, Bob served as board member and President of the North Central United Way, board member and President of Handicrafters, Inc., Treasurer of several Chambers of Commerce, and he was a member of the West Chester Rotary Club.
He served the residents of Hamiltonban Township as a member of the Planning Commission, elected Auditor and elected Supervisor since 2006. He is one of the original members of the Adams County Council of Government. He was the second president serving two terms. He served as the legislative chair for 15 years. He also concurrently served as the legislative chair for the Adams County Association of Township Officials and served on both executive committees until his retirement in 2024. He also served for many years on the board of the Adams County Economic Development Corporation.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Steven Gordon and wife Laurette, Holly Ridge, NC, Susan Belford and husband Craig, West Grove, PA, Sharon Payne, Millersville, PA, Stewart Gordon of Lawrenceville, NJ, Sheila Meyer and husband Stephen of Chester Springs, PA; 11 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 10 AM at Little’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 34 Maple Ave., Littlestown, PA followed by a service at 11 AM with Rev. Robert Macfarlane officiating. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown.
