Obituary: Rosalie F. Schenker

Rosalie F. Schenker, 82, of Gettysburg, PA, died Saturday afternoon, April 26, 2025, at Wellspan York Hospital surrounded by family.

Born April 18, 1943, in Erie, PA, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy (Ploszaj) Lastowski. She was the wife of the late Frederick S. Schenker who died December 5, 2019.

Mrs. Schenker was a member of St. Joseph the Worker, Bonneauville, PA. She earned her BS from Duquesne University and her Master’s from Boston University. She worked in accounting at Computer Science Corp. in Mechanicsburg for a number of years before her retirement.

Rosalie fought many health battles throughout her life. She was stricken with polio when she was 12 and spent six months in the hospital. She had cancer more than 20 years ago. She was given a 5% chance of survival and had one of her lungs removed. Then, later, she suffered three heart attacks. In 2023, she was in the hospital 7 times. During her last 2023 hospital stay, her appendix had to be removed. Education was of the utmost importance to her. She was also an avid reader and thought books to be treasures. She loved doing crossword puzzles and playing games with her grandchildren. She was a regular at local trivia and spent lots of time watching the Game Show Network. She was also a frequent attendee of her son Mark’s concerts with his bands platinum recording artist KIX and Sun Dogs a Tribute to RUSH. She would sit in her wheelchair, enjoying every musical moment while cultivating a vibrant social network of fellow concert-goers. She loved living on a lake and watching beautiful sunsets. Always wanting to entertain for family and friends, her annual Memorial Day picnics created lots of memories for everyone in attendance.

Rosalie is survived by her two sons, Mark Schenker (his wife Jenna), of South Riding, VA, Brian Schenker (his wife Chervelle), of Frederick, MD, four grandchildren, Aidan, Ashlyn, Addison, Aaron, and her brother, Philip Lastowski, of Millersville, PA. She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Lastowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 16, 2025, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 12 E. Hanover St., Bonneauville, PA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday evening, May 15, 2025, at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA.
