Obituary: Roy A. Weaner, Jr.



Roy A. Weaner Jr., 91, was born on June 12, 1933 to the late Roy Weaner Sr. and Lillie (Maus) Weaner of Gettysburg, and went to be with his Lord on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024 at the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village.

Roy is survived by his son, Edward R. Weaner of Jonestown, Pa.; son-in-law Greg Urey of Hanover, Pa.; grandchildren Erin Brinser (Mark) of Middletown, Pa., Laura Schou (Paul) of Laurel, Md., Heather Bartoe (Keith) of Richmond, Va., Molly Bennett (Nic) of Etters, Pa., Christian Weaner (Rayan) of Dakar, Senegal and Kimberly Weaner of Jonestown, Pa.; great grandchildren Noah and Gavin Brinser, Beth, Luke and Ryan Schou, Holland Bartoe and Brooks Bennett; brother-in-law Barry Breighner (Sandra) of Gettysburg, sisters-in-law Karen Breighner of Mechanicsburg, Pa. and Lucy Breighner of Gettysburg, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife of 59 years June (Breighner) Weaner, son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Holly Weaner, daughter Barbara Urey, and brother and sister-in-law Robert and Isabella Weaner.

Roy lived his entire life on Old Harrisburg Road in Gettysburg, growing up on his family’s dairy farm and eventually purchasing the farm and business from his father. He served for many years on the board of both the Interstate Milk Producers Coop and Middle Atlantic Milk Marketing Board. Roy met June, the love of his life, during high school when they were square dance partners and the two were wed on Dec. 18, 1954. Together, Roy and June built a lasting legacy with their three children.

Roy was an active member of Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church in Gettysburg and regularly attended small group Bible studies throughout his adult life. He enjoyed yearly retreats with his family to Sandy Cove Ministries in North East, Md., and he was known for his generosity in supporting numerous Christian organizations. Roy was a man of integrity, who worked hard and held his faith, family and friends in high importance. He will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024 at Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church, 1865 Knoxlyn Road, Gettysburg, with Rev. Mark Englund-Krieger and Rev. David Dunn, officiating. Visitation with family will begin at 10 a.m., and the service will be at 11 a.m., followed by refreshments/lunch. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The service will be live streamed at lmcpc.org.
