Russell A. “Rusty” Campbell, Jr., 96, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford, PA. He was born May 10, 1930, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and lived a life defined by faith, kindness, integrity, and love for others.
Rusty was a graduate of Lehigh University and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Counter Intelligence Corps. He spent most of his business career as a Sales Representative for Oxford Container Corp.
Rusty was truly a gentleman and a gentle man. Patient, jovial, and compassionate, he had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcome. A devoted man of faith, his unwavering commitment to his church was evident through many years of volunteer service at Christ Lutheran Church.
His grandsons will forever cherish the countless hours spent talking to him while traveling for work. Those conversations often centered on life and trying to explain the details of their jobs – something he always made an earnest effort to compare to his career in corrugated box sales. He listened carefully, offered thoughtful advice, and never ended a conversation without: “Sell a Million”. Those simple words were an expression of his unwavering belief in them.
Rusty was an avid reader and New York Times crossword puzzle wiz. He always treasured his companionship with his golfing buddies at the Gettysburg Country Club.
Rusty is survived by his grandsons, Andrew M. Campbell of Wilmington, DE, Benjamin Campbell and his wife Danielle of Nazareth, PA, their children, Aidan and Emma; his daughter-in-law, Regina Campbell of York, PA. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia Winter Campbell and a son Bradford Campbell.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Christ Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, PA, at 11:00 AM. Private interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
