Obituary: Ruth Jeanne Bream

Ruth Jeanne Bream, 95, Orrtanna, PA, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Brookview Healthcare in Chambersburg, PA.

She was born September 18, 1930, in McKnightstown, PA, the daughter of the late Milo F. and Hilda Hartman Diehl.

She was a member of Flohr’s Lutheran Church in McKnightstown, PA, where she married John W. Bream, Jr. in 1953. Ruth graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1948 and Penn State University in 1952. She taught for one year in the Carlisle Area School District, starting the speech improvement and therapy programs. She taught for 4 years in the Gettysburg Area Schools and then became a speech therapist in the Adams County Schools. After several years, she returned to the speech department of the Adams County Schools and later to the Lincoln Intermediate Unit. In 1975, she became full-time secretary-treasurer of Bream Orchards, Inc., serving until her retirement. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta social sorority, Gettysburg Garden Club, DAR, and the Gettysburg Hospital Bridge Club.

She was predeceased by her husband John, a son, John W. Bream III, a grandson, Drew W. Bream, and a sister, Anna Mary Fischer of York, PA.

She is survived by two sons: Mark D. Bream and his wife, Gale, and their children; Katie (Rob) Bream Frie, Steven (Kasey) Bream, and Holly (Matthew) Bream Powery; son, Thomas F. Bream and his wife, Kelly, and their children; Alex Bream and Tyler Bream, grandson, David Bream. She is also survived by 2 great-granddaughters, Violet Powery and Taylor Gilsbach.

A Memorial service will be held at Flohr’s Lutheran Church in McKnightstown, PA, on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
