Wayne was a two-year veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. Following his military service, Wayne served as Assistant Manager of the former Dutch Cupboard Restaurant in Gettysburg for fourteen years, having started as a dishwasher at the age of twelve. He then became employed at the Gettysburg Westinghouse/Schindler Elevator plant for ten years, followed by nine years with the Gettysburg Borough and several years with SCCAP Weatherization until his retirement.

He was a member of the Gettysburg United Methodist Church and Albert J. Lentz American Legion Post #202. Wayne became involved in community service during the 1970s as Manager of the Gettysburg Outdoor Antique Show, sponsored by GARMA, for thirty-four years beginning in 1976. He was Cubmaster of Cub Pack #73, Gettysburg, in the late 1970s. Wayne joined the Gettysburg Fire Department’s Fire Police in the 1980s and served for 18 years, ultimately serving as Captain for much of that time. In 1954, the first year of the Gettysburg Little League baseball, Wayne was proud to hit the first home run of the league as a member of the Yankees team in a time before fences were installed at the rec field.

For fifteen years starting in 2008, Wayne and Linda rented a booth at the Black Rose Antiques and Collectibles establishment in Hanover, PA, which they discontinued in November of 2023, due to Wayne’s health.
