Saturday, August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day. The Overdose Awareness Task Force in Adams County will be concluding a series of educational programming at the Adams County Farmers Market on Saturday the 31st from 8am – 1pm in order to raise awareness about this important issue, and to inform community members about different resources that are available.
Information on the opioid crisis, county resources, and prevention tools will be provided. The Overdose Awareness Task Force will also be doing a community wide survey on ‘Stigma and Substance Abuse’ starting at the Adams County Farmers Market to help us decide where our prevention efforts are needed.
In addition to the Overdose Awareness Task Force, the Adams County Arts Council (ACAC) will also be present at the farmers market in support of Overdose Awareness Day. ACAC has supplemental resources and programming designed to help Adams County residents lead healthy lives while recovering from addiction.
The Adams County Farmers Market Association (ACFMA) is a Gettysburg-based 501(c)6 nonprofit organization whose mission is to help support local businesses and increase access to fresh food by operating a vibrant farmers market in downtown Gettysburg.
The ACFMA believes that facilitating educational programming at the farmers market, like International Overdose Awareness Day, helps cultivate a stronger sense of community among residents, encourages everyone to live healthier lives, and increases the overall enjoyment of the farmers market by visitors and residents alike.
