The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is distributing $4.3 billion in grants across 30 states to combat climate pollution, with Pennsylvania receiving $396 million to address industrial greenhouse gas emissions from materials like cement and asphalt. These grants, funded by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, aim to support various sectors, including transportation, electric power, commercial and residential buildings, industry, agriculture, and waste management.
The Inflation Reduction Act, passed by congressional Democrats, allocates nearly $400 billion to promote clean energy initiatives, such as wind and solar power, facilitating the nation’s shift away from fossil fuels. This financial boost is crucial in the ongoing battle against climate change.

In Pennsylvania, EPA Administrator Michael Regan and Governor Josh Shapiro revealed the grant recipients in Pittsburgh, highlighting the state’s commitment to reducing industrial emissions. This announcement comes as Pennsylvania remains a key political battleground for the 2024 election.
Additionally, senior EPA officials, along with Democratic Senator Alex Padilla of California, will announce nearly $500 million in grants for decarbonizing transportation and freight at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. These funds will support the installation of electric charging equipment, the adoption of zero-emission freight vehicles, and the conversion of cargo handling equipment to lower emissions.
This significant investment underscores the federal government’s dedication to accelerating the transition to clean energy and reducing the nation’s carbon footprint.
