PA: Your Weekend Getaway

This week, Governor Josh Shapiro highlighted Pennsylvania as an ideal weekend getaway during his “Great American Getaway RV Tour.” Traveling over 1,500 miles across 14 counties, Shapiro, alongside his family, showcased the state’s vast offerings, from quaint small towns to thrilling outdoor adventures and historical sites.

The tour kicked off in Moosic, where Shapiro launched Pennsylvania’s new state tourism brand, emphasizing the Commonwealth’s proximity to major East Coast cities. Nearly 72 million people live within a four-hour drive of Pennsylvania, making it a convenient destination for millions.

A significant stop included Philadelphia, where Shapiro joined the nation’s 250th-anniversary celebrations, spotlighting iconic locales like the Rocky Statue and Independence Hall. The tour also highlighted Pennsylvania’s robust craft brewery scene, with Shapiro visiting Barley Creek Brewing Company in Tannersville.

In scenic Fayette and Allegheny counties, Shapiro celebrated Pittsburgh’s selection as the 2026 NFL Draft host and explored popular state parks. The family enjoyed diverse culinary experiences, including a glass-blowing demonstration and a cooking class in Pittsburgh, underscoring the state’s rich cultural fabric.

The tour concluded in Bucks County at Peddler’s Village, where the Governor and First Lady supported local artisans, enhancing the state’s appeal as a hub for unique and locally-made goods.

Touring from the historic streets of Lancaster to the bustling markets of Pittsburgh, Governor Shapiro’s initiative underlines his commitment to bolstering tourism, a sector that supports over 486,000 jobs and generates $76 billion annually. With an $18 million proposed investment in tourism and business marketing, Shapiro aims to attract more visitors and foster economic growth.
