Gettysburg Rising has obtained permits to hold two demonstrations in the First Amendment Area to the left of the Peace Light Monument (as you are facing it).
The first of these vigils is Sunday, April 27, from 1-3 pm, and the second is Sunday, May 25, also 1-3 pm.

The purpose of these events is to show support for Gettysburg National Military Park and, in general, the National Park Service (NPS). Recent directives from the new administration and DOGE have affected funding and personnel for National Parks, including our own.
Our area is economically intertwined with tourism dollars spent by visitors to Gettysburg NMP, which was estimated at nearly fifty-five million dollars in 2023, and supports over six hundred jobs. In addition to the economic significance of the park to this region, we also wish to recognize the historical importance of the Battle of Gettysburg in the history of the United States, and honor the words of Abraham Lincoln, who proclaimed that “these dead shall not have died in vain”.
The community is invited to participate in this peaceful demonstration to show their support by bringing signs or wearing clothing in support, or just attend to support our national parks. Gettysburg Rising volunteers will be on hand to distribute information about the benefits of the Park and our community to those interested in learning more.
Participants need to be aware that they must not park in the visitor’s lot, but rather they should park on the right side of Buford Ave. and North Confederate Ave. as indicated in the attached map, with all four wheels on the pavement.
Gettysburg Rising is a grassroots group whose mission statement is “To encourage civic engagement, promote fact-based information, and promote policies that best serve the residents of Adams County”.
