Pella Grant to Main Street Gettysburg Funds Way Ahead for Baltimore Street Project

Main Street Gettysburg is pleased to announce the next step for the Baltimore Street/Gateway Connectivity Project, thanks to a generous grant from Pella Corporation.

In April 2021, Pella Corporation provided a generous donation of $25,000 to Main Street Gettysburg, specifically restricted for use toward the Baltimore Street/Gateway Connectivity Project – an $11 million revitalization project in the heart of Historic Gettysburg. The multiple block project connects to Federal Park Service Land on both the Northern and Southern ends (Gettysburg National Military Park and the David Wills House), and will include brick sidewalks, heritage lighting, safer crosswalks, streetscaping, wayfinding signage, bus stops and shelters.

The Master Plan was completed and adopted in 2018. In 2019, the Borough of Gettysburg applied for a Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) grant to cover the cost of design and engineering. The next critical step is to request and secure construction funding, which the Pella grant has enabled.

At the Borough Council meeting in April, Main Street President Jill Sellers and Gettysburg Borough Manager Charles Gable presented an initiative to apply for a US Department of Transportation RAISE grant (Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity), a discretionary program that provides unique opportunities for federal investment in road, rail, transit, and port projects. A successful application for the RAISE grant has the potential to fund this important community project.

Because of Pella’s generous donation, Main Street Gettysburg was able to partner with the Borough of Gettysburg on a contract with Michael Baker International to submit a RAISE application for community planning and public funding services on the Baltimore Street/Gateway Connectivity Project.

Without Pella Corporation, the next phase of this project would not be possible at this time. Their generous investment has allowed us to move toward realization of this project and a better future for historic Gettysburg.
