Penn State Trio Set for Super Bowl Showdown

Three former Penn State players will take the field in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11, 2024. The trio consists of former offensive tackle Donovan Smith, who is set to defend the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl title, former safety Ji’Ayir Brown, and former defensive tackle Kevin Givens.

Smith joined the Chiefs on a one-year deal this offseason, following his 14-year stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During his time with the Buccaneers, Smith led the team to Super Bowl LV in 2021, where he blocked for Tom Brady. Smith is one of the most decorated players in NFL history and has earned countless accolades, including two Super Bowl championships and a career-leading 31 starts in the NFL.

Brown is in his first professional season after being drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft. He spent two seasons at Lackawanna before transferring to Penn State, where he played three more seasons.

Givens played at Penn State from 2015 to 2017, where he recorded 82 tackles across 39 games. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft, but his playing time has been limited due to injuries. Givens has appeared in 57 games with the 49ers since being drafted, recording 80 tackles, including a career-high 23 this season.
