After 46 hours on their feet in the Bryce Jordan Center, THON 2024 revealed it raised $16,955,683.63, breaking the yearly record for the third consecutive year. Last year, THON 2023 raised $15,006,132.46.
The annual THON fundraiser at Penn State, which concluded on February 18, is a monumental student-run philanthropy event aimed at fighting childhood cancer. Since its inception in 1977, THON has significantly contributed to this cause, raising over $204 million for the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital. This year, THON continued its tradition of engaging over 16,500 student volunteers in a yearlong effort to support families battling childhood cancer, culminating in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon. The event not only raises funds but also spreads awareness and supports research efforts to find a cure for childhood cancer, ensuring that more than 4,800 families have not received a medical bill through its partnership with Four Diamonds.
The theme for THON 2024 was “Treasure Every Adventure,” chosen to embody the significance of cherishing every moment of life and finding gratitude in it. This theme underscores the importance of embracing the diverse experiences of children and their families affected by cancer, recognizing that each journey, no matter how challenging, contributes to the broader mission of THON. This ethos is central to the event, providing a supportive and celebratory environment for affected families and the wider community engaged in the fight against childhood cancer.
