Pennsylvania’s heating-assistance program is scheduled to begin accepting applications Nov. 2, giving eligible households help with winter fuel and utility bills.
The Department of Human Services lists that opening date for the 2026–27 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, known as LIHEAP.
The program provides grants that do not have to be repaid. Cash assistance goes directly to a utility company or fuel supplier and is credited to the household’s bill.
Renters and homeowners may qualify. Applicants do not have to receive other public assistance or already have an unpaid heating bill.
The department’s current income table lists annual limits of $23,940 for one person, $32,460 for two, and $49,500 for four.
Separate crisis assistance addresses emergencies such as broken heating equipment, a shutoff, or a dangerously low fuel supply.
The agency’s page still identifies the previous application season as closed. Residents should check the current program information when the new application period opens.
Questions can be directed to the local county assistance office or the statewide LIHEAP hotline at 1-866-857-7095.
