Peter Miele will leave Seminary Ridge Museum

The Board of Directors of Seminary Ridge Historic Preservation Foundation (SRHPF) has announced the resignation of President Peter Miele, effective June 30, 2024.

After being hired in 2013 as a Visitor Services Assistant, Miele successively directed the Education and Operations departments, and served the last four years as Executive Director of Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center.

“I arrived in Gettysburg in January 2013 to reinvent myself as a public historian,” recalled Miele. “In those early days, I dreamed of working at the new museum on the Ridge. But I never imagined that I would actually have the honor of helping to open the doors of that iconic historic building on the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Nor did I ever think that I would have the privilege of constructing the Museum’s educational curriculum and managing its operations. And I certainly did not expect to be called upon to lead the organization. To that budding public historian from 2013, the last eleven years have been nothing short of a dream come true.”

Board Chair Emried Cole commented, “Pete’s leadership and service to our organization have been excellent. We’re especially grateful for his dedication and hard work through the tough times of the recent pandemic. As a result of his efforts, the Foundation and the Museum it operates emerged in a stronger position. He has laid a foundation for continuing growth and opportunity for our mission both as a community and as a national education resource. We are grateful for his years with us and wish him the best in the future.”

Miele has accepted a new position with Susquehanna National Heritage Area in Wrightsville, PA. An interim leadership team will see the organization through its transition and search for a new President and Executive Director.
