Biglerville American Legion Post 262, led by Commander Rick Pelc, hosted its traditional Flag Day flag retirement ceremony yesterday. Flags were previously collected at a drop box located by the front door of the Legion, as well as at Representative Torren Ecker’s Abbottstown office.
The ceremony took place at the American Legion Post 262 Woods Pavilion, located at 3030 Table Rock Road. Sponsored by the Allied Veterans of Adams County, the event honored the American flag by retiring those that were tattered, worn, or otherwise deemed unserviceable. In keeping with tradition, the flags were disposed of with dignity through burning.

The Apple Core Band began the evening with a performance of patriotic tunes, including the Star-Spangled Banner, to open the ceremony at 6:00 p.m. Three local Scout groups participated this year: Troop 70 from Arendtsville, Troop 71 from Biglerville, and Troop 75 from Gardners.
After the ceremony, attendees enjoyed hot dogs and burgers with all the fixings, a variety of drinks, classic side dishes, and an array of homemade desserts. The turnout was strong, with impressive attendance for this small-town celebration of Old Glory.
