On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, POLITICO Managing Editor Peter Canellos will speak at the 23rd Annual Blavatt Lecture hosted by the Eisenhower Institute at Gettysburg College. The lecture will be held at the College Union Building Ballroom on Gettysburg College’s campus, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Registration is free but required for all attendees.
The title of Canellos’s presentation is “America Has Spoken: What’s Next?.” Coming to Gettysburg the day after a historic presidential election, Canellos will pull from his experience overseeing the newsroom during the 2016 presidential coverage to explain the race outcomes and explore how our nation can address the monumental challenges ahead.

“Coming out of a deeply divided and consequential election, it is important that we continue to focus on fostering constructive conversation across differences,” said Eisenhower Institute Executive Director Tracie Potts. “Canellos’s unique perspective in politics, along with his impressive achievements as an author and a journalist, offer our students new insights into the electoral process as they aim to find common ground and take meaningful actions.”
Currently serving as the Managing Editor for Enterprise at POLITICO, Canellos brings years of experience in journalism, having overseen two Pulitzer Prize-winning projects along with five others that were Pulitzer finalists, among many other awards. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Law School, Canellos spent most of his career at the Boston Globe, where he oversaw the paper’s local news coverage and Washington, D.C., bureau. Canellosis is also the editor of the New York Times bestseller “LastLion: The Fall and Rise of Ted Kennedy,” which analyzes Kennedy’s career following his death from cancer. He is also the author of “The Great Dissenter: The Story of John Marshall Harlan, America’s Judicial Hero.” He will conduct a book signing at the event.
The Blavatt Lecture showcases individuals whose professional experiences provide a first-hand perspective of the American political system while emphasizing the importance of public service based on truth, justice, and civil discourse. Past speakers have included influential members of Congress, well-known writers, accomplished authors, talented educators, noted researchers and leading political scientists.
