Prince Of Peace features art of Edmund and Veronika Sonnenberg through July

Wood carvings, paintings, and embroidery by the late artists Edmund and Veronika Sonnenberg will be on display in the Stahle Parlor of The Memorial Church of the Prince of Peace, Gettysburg’s Episcopal parish, now through July. The church is located at 20 West High Street in Gettysburg.

The Sonnenbergs were a husband-and-wife team of European-born artists, both World War II refugees, who did much of their work while living in Ohio. Edmund Sonnenberg worked in oils and wood, while Veronika’s worked in fine embroidery. Edmund’s wood carvings included elaborate frames for both his own artworks and those of his wife. Edmund Sonnenberg began carving and painting in late middle age, following an injury that confined him to bed, leaving him with time on his hands.

The display is presented through the courtesy of the Sonnenbergs’ grandson, Ed Sonnenberg, a parishioner at Prince of Peace.

The artwork is open to the public during the parish’s hospitality hour, which takes place at 11:30 a.m. Sundays. Refreshments are served, with free parking available in the rear of the church. (Adjacent, on-street parking is free until 1 p.m) The parish’s Stahle Parlor, the parish’s fellowship hall, regularly features the work of local artists and artists with family connections to the Gettysburg area. The works are curated by parishioner and artist Jean Siderio.
