The Memorial Church of the Prince of Peace, Gettysburg’s Episcopal parish, in cooperation with Gettysburg for Gun Sense, and the Episcopal Diocese of Central Pennsylvania’s Gun Violence Advocacy Group, will present a documentary film “A Tree of Life, The Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting” at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 27th. The presentation and a discussion will take place at the church, located at 20 W. High Street in Gettysburg. There is no charge for attendance, and free off-street parking is available in the rear of the church.
The event marks the sixth anniversary of the mass shooting at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue, which claimed the lives of eleven people. The film will review and bring to life the event and its aftermath.

The film documents deeply personal portraits of the victims and family members and their accounts of the impact of the shooting on the community. The film sheds light on the collective trauma suffered by the community and brings into sharp focus the hate-based rhetoric that surrounds many of today’s mass shootings.
A discussion will follow, facilitated by The Rev. James Strader-Strasser, interim rector of Prince of Peace, and representatives of Gettysburg for Gun Sense.
