ProPublica, Major News Outlets Win Pulitzers

The 2025 Pulitzer Prizes were announced Monday, with ProPublica receiving the prestigious public service award for its “Life of the Mother” series, which explored the human and legal consequences of abortion bans across the United States.

The Washington Post was recognized in the breaking news category for its swift and in-depth coverage of the July 13 assassination attempt on then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. Reuters earned the investigative reporting prize for its work on the U.S. fentanyl crisis. At the same time, The Baltimore Banner and The New York Times shared the local reporting award for their separate investigations into the same issue.

The New York Times was also honored in international reporting for its ongoing coverage of the war in Sudan. The Wall Street Journal received recognition in the national reporting category for its investigative series on Elon Musk, examining the billionaire’s influence across industries and public life.

In the arts, Percival Everett’s James, a modern reimagining of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, received the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. The nonfiction award went to To the Success of Our Hopeless Cause by Benjamin Nathans, a detailed account of the Soviet dissident movement.

The Pulitzer Prizes, administered by Columbia University and decided by a board of journalists, academics, and media leaders, are among the highest honors in American journalism and letters.
