Rededication ceremony at Bender’s Church to honor Revolutionary War patriots

A historic Adams County landmark will serve as the backdrop for a celebration of local heritage and national history this weekend.

The Biglerville Historical Preservation Society will host a rededication ceremony on Saturday at Benders Lutheran Church, recognizing a Daughters of the American Revolution monument honoring 22 local men who served during the American Revolution.

The event will feature live period music, historical reflections, and local food, offering attendees an immersive experience that blends community fellowship with remembrance.

The ceremony is intended to highlight the sacrifices made by Adams County residents who helped shape the nation’s founding. The monument, originally erected by the Daughters of the American Revolution, stands as a tribute to those 22 individuals whose service contributed to American independence.

Following the rededication, guests are invited to a reception marking two additional milestones: the 30th anniversary of the Biglerville Historical Society and the 245th anniversary of Benders Lutheran Church, one of the region’s oldest houses of worship.

The celebration will continue with a historically inspired 1781-style church service led by Pastor Ryan, offering a glimpse into early American religious life and traditions. The service is designed to reflect the time period in which the honored soldiers lived, adding further historical context to the day’s events.

Community members and visitors alike are encouraged to attend the gathering, which aims to both educate and inspire while strengthening connections to the area’s past.
