Registration remains open for a free Labor Day 5K that will bring runners and walkers to the Gateway Wyndham in Gettysburg on Monday morning.

The event begins at 8 a.m., with participants encouraged to arrive by about 7:15 a.m. to pick up their chip-timed race bibs, prepare for the course and enjoy pre-race activities.

The Labor Day event follows a similar free 5K held on Memorial Day and is designed for participants of all abilities. Experienced runners can test their times, while walkers and first-time 5K participants are also welcome.

Several hundred people are expected, with organizers noting that about 400 bibs may need to be distributed before the start. Spectators are also welcome.

DJ Jim Anderson of Tiger Entertainment will provide music before, during, and after the race, while Kathy Gaskin of Healthy Adams County will sing the national anthem before participants head onto the course.

The route will have course monitors stationed at intersections and turns, along with volunteers calling out times at the one- and two-mile marks. Water will be available along the course, and a lead bicyclist will travel the route and check on participants.

Everyone who completes the 5K will cross the finish line beneath a yellow and blue arch and receive a finisher’s medal. Fruit and salty snacks will be available afterward.

The event is made possible with support from several local organizations and businesses. The Gateway Wyndham provides the location and restroom facilities, while Tiger Entertainment provides music. Highmark Wholecare supports race timing, Hunterstown Power Generation helps cover medals and food, Straban Township assists with course safety, and the Adams County Planning Department helps with signage. Numerous volunteers will also assist, including members of the Gettysburg Beer Runners.
