Summer reading is back and ready to roar! This Summer’s reading theme at the Library is “Unearth a Story”. All six Adams County Library System’s locations will be stomping, roaring, and digging up some good books. People of all ages are encouraged to participate in SummerQuest. We have some exciting updates to this year’s summer reading challenge.
The whole family can log their reading in Beanstack for a chance to earn and win prizes.
This year, participants are logging the number of days that they read in their Beanstack reading log. For every ten days that you read and record, you can pick a small prize and get a virtual ticket to enter for a chance to win raffle prizes. All types of reading count toward your reading log. Reading chapter books, YA, reading to your children, listening to an audiobook in the car, or reading a comic at your local comic book store. We encourage you to read for twenty minutes a day. Once you’ve started a habit of reading, you just won’t want to stop.
This program runs from June 1st to August 9th. Registration begins on May 25th. To register for the program, you can go to our website https://www.adamslibrary.org/ and click on “Beanstack”. That is where you register and log your reading. You can use Beanstack’s website or download the app.
SummerQuest is not just about reading; you can also take hikes with your family with the GO Adams program. Each of the six libraries has the GO Adams guides and rubbing sheets.
There are 15 hikes located throughout the county. While on the hike, you look for a post.
Once you complete the hike, there is a post with a rubbing that you transfer to your rubbing sheet. There will also be a code to enter into the Beanstack website. By entering the code, you and your child will have the chance to win prizes.
Each of our libraries is offering fun, educational, and free programs throughout the summer. The Littlestown library is having Strawberry Hill present a Bug Bonanza. Reptiles will be invading the Gettysburg Library. The Trone Memorial Library in East Berlin will be hosting a Summer book club to a movie. Learn about raptors at the Harbaugh-Thomas Library in Biglerville. Celebrate America’s 250th birthday in Carroll Valley with Songs and Stories of the American Revolution. Roar with the dinosaurs in New Oxford and attend Dino Chat with Mr. Mike.
There will also be additional offerings celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Whether you are interested in history, dinosaurs, dirt, rocks, bugs, or making crafts, we have something for you. If you would like more information, please visit our website https://www.adamslibrary.org/
We would like to thank Adams Electric Co-op and the Rotary Club of Gettysburg for sponsoring SummerQuest and making all of these opportunities possible for the community.
