America is preparing for a moment unlike any other. As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, Gettysburg stands at the forefront of this historic milestone. This year’s Battle Anniversary and July 4th events will highlight Gettysburg, where our Union was saved.
Let’s set the stage for this epic celebration. It’s time to roll up your sleeves!
Main Street Gettysburg is inviting downtown businesses, property owners, community organizations, and volunteers to come together over the next few weeks to help present our historic district at its very best.
This is more than routine maintenance. Did you know that Main Street Gettysburg’s “From The Ground Up” volunteers clean downtown sidewalks and streets every Monday? We need an even bigger effort—your time and participation will make their weekly efforts go farther and will be a great show of appreciation.
It’s time for a shared responsibility for stewardship. Take a little time and add some elbow grease to tackle some easy, high-impact improvements:
Pull weeds from sidewalks, curbs, and tree wells.
Pick up trash bags and borrow gloves from us.
Once cleared, Borough Public Works will add mulch to tree wells.
Remove litter and debris from around your property.
Don’t forget to clean up the alleys too.
Sweep sidewalks, steps, and storefront entrances—weekly or daily.
Create safe and inviting walkways.
Wash windows and doors.
Showcase clean buildings that reflect care and investment.
Paint, repair, or refresh building exteriors.
Apply online for a Façade Improvement Grant to support your project.
Bring life and color to the streetscape with fresh planters and flower boxes.
As a finishing touch, consider displaying an American flag or America250PA flag.
Small details make a HUGE impact!
Together these efforts ensure that local residents and visitors from across the country and around the world will experience clean sidewalks, well-preserved buildings, welcoming storefronts, and attractive streetscapes. As we celebrate the 250th, let’s show off our shared commitment to Gettysburg.
