Sarena Johnson’s “A Love Song” Opens at Majestic Theater Art Gallery

The Majestic Theater Art Gallery opened its newest exhibition, Sarena Johnson: A Love Song, with a public reception this evening. The show will remain on display through August 18.

Johnson, a Philadelphia and Connecticut-based painter, uses her work to explore and celebrate femininity in all its dimensions. Her latest collection is described as an act of resistance to patriarchal norms, offering instead an intimate and emotional landscape where female figures are surrounded by joy, harmony, and laughter.

Her paintings shift between monochrome tones that evoke old photographs and vivid, saturated colors that pulse with life. Johnson incorporates both classical and natural symbols into her compositions, creating a personal mythology in which the female form takes center stage. She has dedicated this body of work to what she calls “the radical women” in her life.

A 2018 graduate of The University of the Arts, Johnson earned her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2020. Her work has been exhibited across the United States and internationally, including in Washington state, Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Portugal. She previously taught drawing and painting at her undergraduate alma mater and was a resident artist at Gigi Peter’s Gallery in Portugal.

Johnson’s artistic mission is to empower the feminine, practice authenticity, and embrace absolute freedom.

A Love Song will be on view at the Majestic Theater Art Gallery through August 18. More information about the artist and her work can be found at sarenajohnsonpainting.com or on Instagram at @sarenbean.
