The select, auditioned choral ensemble affiliated with the Music, Gettysburg! concert series, Schola Cantorum of Gettysburg, is welcoming new singers. The group will begin its 33rd year on Monday, September 9.
The Schola Cantorum is known for its performances of masterworks from the Middle Ages through the 21st Century. The ensemble has collaborated with the internationally renowned Boston Shawm and Sackbut Ensemble, performing works of the Gabrielis, Praetorius, Josquin Des Prez, Schütz, Schein and other masters of the “early music” genre.
While it specializes in early music, the ensemble has also collaborated with the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra to perform such works as Bach’s B-minor Mass, St. John Passion, and cantatas, the Brahm’s Requiem, and Orff’s Carmina Burana.
The group also enjoys performing the works of modern and contemporary composers such as Hugo Distler, Arvo Pårt, and Hollis Thoms, as well as works by the ensemble’s founding director, Stephen Folkemer.
Singers interested in joining the Schola Cantorum should contact Dr. Stephen Folkemer at sfolkemer@uls.edu prior to September 16.
