Parents and caregivers dropped off their 5th grade students on Nawakwa Road at their assigned cabins in Biglerville on May 13, 2024. The rainy morning did not delay the agenda. Campers resided the remainder of the school week at Nawakwa to take part in the Science curriculum.
This annual spring field trip takes place for 3 days and 2 nights. Teachers provide activity-oriented science learning, teach respect for all living things, and build an understanding of ecosystems. Additionally, they hope to give students the responsibility of providing a clean, healthy home for themselves and others.
The experience also aligns with American History Studies by showing how pioneers had to survive. The students learned knot tying, and completed leaf art and recycled craft projects. They also did a stream study and sand sang campfire songs. Students slept in cabins on-site.
Biglerville High School students volunteer as camp counselors.
Biglerville and Arendtsville Lions Club members assisted in cooking and serving meals.
This environmental experience relies on grants and scholarships from the community.
