Summer of 2021 came in with a bang yesterday afternoon as a severe thunderstorm ripped through Adams County. Strong winds brought down power lines and tree limbs, with many damaged structures and widespread disruptions in power, telephone, and internet service.

Power and internet outages remain across the county today.
One West Gettysburg resident, whose phone line was ripped from his house, said it was the strongest wind he had ever experienced.
“There were limbs down all over my yard. I had to climb out bedroom window this morning to remove them,” said a Gettysburg resident.

A Carroll Valley house sustained damage during the storm, including damage to the roof, siding and gutters, along with a hole in the roof that went through the interior ceiling.
In Gettysburg, traffic signals were without power yesterday, forcing the public works crews to use portable generators to temporarily keep them functioning until normal power could be brought back online.
Gettysburg residents are asked to report any tree obstructions on roadways to the Public Works Department by calling (717) 334-4666. Property owners are responsible to clear obstructions from sidewalks.
