It was an especially sunny Thursday afternoon for the Gettysburg Warriors softball team on Thursday, as they triumphed over the Central Dauphin East Panthers by a score of 9-4, earning their first win of the season. While any season will have its ups and downs, the Gettysburg girls have lost some tough ones prior to the initial victory.
It was a team effort, as the Warriors came back from a quick 3-0 deficit. Central Dauphin East scored one run in each of the first three innings. Gettysburg steadily clawed their way back, scoring two runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, four in the fifth, and finally two more in the sixth.
Samantha Carbaugh was outstanding for Gettysburg, going 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs. Abby Boblits also contributed significantly, going 3-for-3 with one RBI. The game was knotted at four in the bottom of the fifth when Aubry Forsythe singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. The Warriors banged out a total of 14 hits and stole two bases.
For CD East, Emma Wertz and Gabriella Paul both went 3-for-4 at the plate, with Wertz hitting a double. Braelyn Pitts contributed with a double and two RBIs, while Tenley Zeppuhar knocked in a run.
Gettysburg’s Emily Haines stepped in for starter Danika Kump and went the final 5.2 innings, allowing two earned runs, seven hits, and striking out three.
