Softball: Hershey edges Gettysburg in nail-biter

In a close high school softball game Thursday in Gettysburg, the Hershey Trojans secured an 8-7 victory against Gettysburg.

The Warriors scored one in the first as Emmaleigh Gillingham walked, then stole second base. Kate Keller hit a triple, bringing Gillingham home. Gettysburg added two more in the third as Keller tripled again, and Kump drove her in with her own triple. Kump later scored on a single by Veronica Paul, tying the game at 3-3.

Ava Hochard doubled for the Warriors in the 4th and scored on a single by Aubry Forsythe.

Abby Boblits singled and stole second in the 6th, and Keller drove her in with a single. Kump followed with a single, bringing Keller home to tie the game at 6-6. But the Trojans responded in the bottom half, with Taylor Valoczki and Dani Blaze both stealing bases and scoring on a two-RBI single by Karolyn Cabrera, giving the Trojans an 8-6 lead.

The Warriors could only score one more run in the 7th as Cate Green walked, stole second and third, and scored on a single by Aubry Forsythe.

Kump threw 103 pitches in 6 innings, while Chloe Maitrejean and Ashlee Criss pitched for 4 and 3 innings, respectively for the Trojans.
